| Colorado & Denver Metro Area
The south section of the metropolitan area consists of areas such as Highlands Ranch, a master planned community of 22,000 acres; Littleton, the county seat for Arapahoe County; Englewood, an older community with a population of 32,000; and Aurora, the third largest city in Colorado with a population of 246,000. Parker, 20 miles southwest of Denver, has immaculate views of the Front Range. Castle Rock is the seat of Douglas County, one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. The north section of the metropolitan area consists of areas such as Broomfield, home to many of our new Hi-Tech industries as well as older established communities of Wheatridge, Arvada, Northglenn, and Westminster. The western section of our city consists of Ken Caryl Ranch & the Valley; Golden, Home of Coors Brewing Company; Morrison; Lakewood, and numerous communities extending West along the Hog Back and north to Lafayette and the Boulder area. Geography Colorado is one of the most beautiful and healthy states in the union. The Rocky Mountains (Continental Divide) run north and south, dividing the state into several distinct regions.
The Western Slope is a diverse region where gold, silver, and minerals are mined. The world-renowned ski resorts of Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Steamboat Springs draw millions of visitors from around the world. The San Louis Valley, at 80 miles long by 50 miles wide, is the largest alpine valley in the world. Alamosa is the nucleus of the region, while San Louis is the oldest town in Colorado. The Eastern Mountains comprise the foothill regions of the Rockies and were the sites for some of the richest mines in the world. Although mining is still active, the old mining towns of Central City, Blackhawk, and Cripple Creek now bustle with the activity of gambling. The High Plains to the east provide the grasslands and soils for ranching, beef production, and grain crops. The beauty of the land, clean air, and the invigorating climate produce an enviable quality of life. Colorado is ranked in the top ten healthiest states in the country. Two reasons are the climate and environment which promote abundant outdoor activities. Climate Colorado weather is changeable
because it is subject to the weather fronts from both the northwest and southwest.
Colorado Lifestyle Choices Coloradoans are by nature active people who enjoy outside activities. The cool and dry climate plays a major role in this lifestyle just as it did 100 years ago. Today, however, there is an abundance of organized activities for children, families, and seniors. They can take full advantage of the Colorado sports environment, celebrate cultural and ethnic traditions, enjoy resort activities, and participate in the fine arts fulfillment. Family Lifestyles: Colorado families, like those around the country, tend to develop many activities around their children. That concept works particularly well in Colorado because so many of the kinds of things children enjoy, adult members of the family also enjoy. If the grandparents live here or come to visit, they are also included. One of the first activities which comes to mind is skiing - a sport for all ages, and all levels of abilities. Moving down the list of family sports is biking, golf, fishing, hiking, and of course team sports events. For Mom's leisure time there is plenty of shopping opportunities, clubs, hobby groups, theatre events, and neighborhood circles. When Dad wants to be himself there is no end to what he can find - from four wheeling to motorcross to wilderness overnights at an alpine lake to golf tournaments, baseball leagues, and limited gambling at the poker table.
